Beddy Rays guide us track by track through the creation of their new album ‘Do What Ya Wanna’, out now.
All I Wanna Do
“All I Wanna Do is a raw and honest look at time, loss, and how quickly moments can slip away. It’s all about juggling work and life, dealing with missed chances, unanswered questions, and trying to find meaning in all the chaos.”
A Million Times
“A Million Times captures the push and pull of searching for meaning while feeling lost. The introspective lyrics dive into the frustration of falling short, forgetting dreams, and chasing something just out of reach while still keeping a promise to keep trying until it all finally makes sense.”
Fender
“Drenched in late-night reflections and restless energy, Fender is a raw and honest take on escape, burnout, and losing yourself in the noise. Lyrically, I talk about constantly playing the guitar to get out what i’m feeling. I teeter between self-destruction and self-discovery, it captures the struggle of running on empty while searching for something real. It’s a slow-burn anthem for anyone who’s ever felt stuck but keeps pushing forward, one chord at a time.”
Pocket Rocket
“This one’s a punk-fuelled anthem about embracing the chaos and doing whatever the hell you want. It’s raw, reckless, and full of energy—no overthinking, just living in the moment. Loud, fast, and made to be screamed at the top of your lungs.”
VICES
“VICES dives into the push and pull of love, doubt, and losing yourself in the process. It’s about battling vices, overthinking everything, and chasing something that feels just out of reach. I throw it all on the line with VICES. It is pure honesty and raw emotion.”
Red Lights
“Red Lights is the lead single of the record ‘Do What Ya Wanna’. We chose this song because we feel like it sets the tone for the record. It’s about overcoming adversity, going through tough times but remaining positive and growing from those moments. Hoping it will resonate with those going through a tough time as it’s a reminder to not take life too seriously, that things will always get better.”
Silverline
“Silverline is a song we had put together whilst on tour in the EU/UK. It is one of the songs we wrote and produced in Liverpool with UK producer Tarek Musa (Gengahr, Circa Waves, Spring King). We were even able to borrow a few instruments that belonged to The Wombats throughout the recording process. The song touches on the complexity and uncertainty that comes along with touring and relationships. The tune brings new sounds the fellas have never explored and packs a punch worth copping.”
Big Brekky
“Big Brekky is a self-aware dive into bad habits, blurry weekends, and the constant battle between picking yourself up and knocking yourself down. It’s raw, relatable, and wrapped in a laid-back groove that hits way too close to home. A soundtrack for anyone who’s ever said, “I wasn’t gonna drink…” and done it anyway.”
Killing Time
“This one’s a chaotic anthem for wasting time, dodging responsibilities, and getting lost in the cycle of mindless distractions. It’s about the push and pull between freedom and avoidance, running on empty but still refusing to slow down. Fast, punchy, and a little self-destructive—just the way it should be.”
Hold On
“Hold on speaks about overcoming life challenges and facing inner demons. Sometimes when the road gets rough you gotta pull over whack it in 4 wheel drive and keep on tracking. It’s a reminder to appreciate those who support you.”
Stay The Same
“I wrote this song soon after my sister Brin passed away. It’s really just me working through the plethora of emotions that I’ve experienced. The heartache, the longing, the helplessness, the self doubt, the denial; they’re all there. Wanting to be there for my family and friends, and just having to feel it all while also pushing through the normal day-to-day. The lyric “stay the same” refers to the idea of keeping Brin’s spirit alive and remembering her for how she was, forever 28.”
