A.A. Williams is kicking off a new chapter in some style, announcing their signing to RPM and sharing a stunning new song at the same time.
The track in question is ‘Just A Shadow’, her first output in just over a year, following on from ‘Splinter’ last September. A patiently beguiling song, it allows Williams’ intimate and intense words to take centre stage before swirling into life, ripping and tearing at the ear like a well-brewed storm.
It is a stark account of how it feels to look into the darkness and try and make peace with it, even if we don’t really want to. It’s confessional, cathartic and chilling in equal measure, a near-perfect way to reintroduce yourself to the world.
Williams had this to say about the track, stating, “‘Just A Shadow’ is an ode to the darkness inside. A part of you since you can remember, a cruel friend lurking just outside of view. A presence that you’ve accepted, its familiarity brings cold comfort. You’ve tried to resist it and step into the light, but you’re scared that you’re nothing without the dark.”
It appears that the song has struck a chord with the folks at RPM, too, with co-founder Gerado Martinez having this to say about the securing of the signature:
“A.A. WILLIAMS is one of the most compelling voices in contemporary music. She is unafraid to explore vulnerability with a rare poetic depth. We’re honored to welcome her to the RPM family, and ‘Just A Shadow’ is a stunning introduction to what we’ll build together.”
