Against The Current have shared a visual for their recent track ‘Dead Man Walking’, and it is a thoughtful, beautifully constructed and decadent affair.
The song itself is absolutely stunning, dripping with all of the dark yet enlightening passion and power that defines the band so beautifully. And the clip matches that feeling, with Chrissy Costanza pulling the casket of herself, but in a different form. There is almost an inevitability to the image, a visual representation that we are constantly dragging the version of ourselves that will return to the soil in everything that we do. Or perhaps it also hints to the idea of dragging along a different version of yourself, that no matter how much you change and grow, the past will also be a part of you, until you truly bury it for good.
It contributes perfectly to the wildly fantastical world that the band continue to build, and adds plenty of intrigue and intensity to whatever they are building towards.
The band had this to say about the track:
““Dead Man Walking” is about how the cost of survival was the person you used to be. It explores the return home from war only to find that, although everything looks the same, you yourself are so deeply different that you no longer fit. There’s a stranger staring back at you in the mirror, the ghost of someone you once were. Everyone thinks you’re fine because you made it out alive, but they don’t realise you never really did.”
