American Football Recruit Turnstile’s Brendan Yates For Gorgeous Track ‘No Feeling’

American Football have shared another piece of their upcoming 4th full-length, and they are joined by a very special guest.

Titled ‘No Feeling’, it continues down the band’s recent path of crafting dizzyingly beautiful moments littered with sparkles of synth-laden prettiness. Despite how stunning the instrumental is, there is, of course, melancholy in the lyrical turns, with Mike Kinsella crooning with a broken numbness. It’s an incredible juxtaposition, the sort that the band have spent the last nearly 30 years honing their craft within.

And with the addition of Turnstile’s Brendan Yates on the jangly chorus, it is further cemented as an instant classic. Also serving as a vocalist who wears their heart firmly on their sleeve and leaves nothing to chance in expressing how they are feeling, it’s a potent combination to say the least.

Mike has this to say about the collaboration, explaining, ““Brendan came into the studio to sing along to a ‘gang vocal’ call-and-response part I’d written for the chorus of “No Feeling.” I had imagined his voice would be one of many voices scream-singing it, and was excited for it to be a sort of Easter Egg on the album. But after tracking the original parts, he asked if he could try a higher harmony that he was hearing. As soon as he started singing it, all of our jaws dropped, and we all were looking at each other like “Oh shit! THAT’S the dude from Turnstile!” His voice is so singular, and once he sang the part in *his* range, it was clear that the part now belonged to him and him alone…”

‘American Football (LP4)’ is set for release on May 01 via Polyvinyl.

It will also feature ‘Bad Moons’ which sounds a lot like this:
