Converge have shared another slice of their upcoming record ‘Love Is Not Enough’ in the form of an absolute epic.

‘We Were Never The Same’ showcases the band’s more melodically minded side without losing any of the laser-focused intensity that has defined them for the last 30 years. Rolling drums and trickling chords sit below Jacob Bannon’s commanding bark, all collectively building towards a choral line that will get trapped in your frontal lobe instantly. It is an astonishing piece of writing, managing to make heavy music feel in line with pop sensability whilst still possessing all of the ferociousness that gets the mosh pit swelling.
Jacob had this to say about the song’s sentiment, stating, “I wrote these words in the parking lot of a funeral home while reflecting on loss. Why do we gather to mourn but not to cherish? It’s an honest question that exposes our collective distractions and shortcomings. Grief brings clarity— We all must do better.”
Its heaviness lingers in different ways, basically.
‘Love Is Not Enought’ will be released February 14 via Epitaph/Deathwish. As close to Valentine’s Day as you’re going to get.
Jacob had this to say about the album and what it means within the legacy of the band, saying, “We still identify this band as the outlet that’s essential to our lives. We give everything we have to it. Being past your average middle age, we’re starting to see deeper than before into a variety of places. And I don’t think that’s specific to us. I think that’s something that’s utterly relatable.”
You can also hear the title track right now, which is more of a showcase of the band’s ability to still rip the skin from the bone like nobody else.
