Green Day have been announced as the band set to kick off this year’s Super Bowl at the opening ceremony.

Taking place in Santa Clara, as close as you can get to where they cut their teeth, the band will be delivering some of the worldwide hits before the big fixture at Levi’s Stadium on February 08.
The announcement states that the show will “open Super Bowl LX by ushering generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field with a dynamic performance of their most iconic rock anthems.” Doesn’t get better than that, does it?
Billie Joe Armstrong had this to say about the event, stating, “We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard! We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”
The opening ceremony will start at 6 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. PT and will be shown on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo.
Following the band, Charlie Puth will be singing the national anthem, Brandi Carlile will take on ‘America The Beautiful’ and Coco Jones will be performing ‘Lift Every Voice And Sing’. Then Bad Bunny will be in charge of the halftime show.
Green Day were recently nominated for a pair of awards at the upcoming iHeartRadio Awards. They are up for Alternative Artist Of The Year alongside Twenty One Pilots, Linkin Park, Sublime and Cage The Elephant.
They are also up for Alternative Song Of The Year with ‘One Eyed Bastard, facing off against, Twenty One Pilots’ ‘The Contract’, Sombr’s ‘Back To Friends’, Sublime’s ‘Ensenada’ and Myles Smith’s ‘Stargazing’.
