West Yorkshire Police have released further details and confirmed that they have now launched a murder investigation into the death of Ian Watkins: “Officers were called by staff at the prison at 9.39am this morning (Saturday 11 October) to reports of a serious assault on a prisoner. A man aged 48 was found with serious injuries. Despite medical attention he was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men aged 25 and 43 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody. Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are investigating and enquiries remain ongoing.”

Former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins is dead following an attack in prison where he was serving his sentence for child sex offences.

According to multiple news reports, Watkins was stabbed by a fellow prisoner earlier this morning (October 11). West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that they were called to HMP Wakefield following the assault and that Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say investigations are still ongoing with The Sun newspaper reporting that the singer’s attacker has been identified.
The disgraced 48 year old was arrested in 2013, pleading guilty to 13 child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a one year old girl, at Cardiff Crown Court. He was sentenced to 29 years in prison. He was previously attacked in prison in August 2023 although his injuries were not life threatening.
