Steve Aoki has once again combined his love of alternative music with his bold and brash electronic music, this time working with Hoobastank.
The song in question is ‘The Reason’, Hoobastank’s platinum-selling worldwide smash, still sounding as emotional and earnest 22 years on from its original release. Though, because it’s Steve Aoki we’re talking about, this isn’t just a straight-up remix. Letting the song’s verses do their work first, it builds and builds into a bludgeoning breakdown, a complete 180 from the original’s atmosphere. Much of that comes down to the fact that the track is also a collaboration with Dutch duo Sound Rush, known for their hard-hitting and emotive hardstyle tunes. It’s the sort of drop that makes you stop in your tracks and simply laugh that it even exists.
Isn’t that what all music should feel like?
It won’t be for everyone, but dropping this at 4am just as the lights in the club start to come on? That’s a hell of a vibe.
Get stuck in and check it out for yourself.
It’s not the first time that Steve has put a spin on a scene classic. Back in 2023, he met in the middle with Yellowcard and put together a euphoric version of ‘Ocean Avenue’.
