Thornhill have unveiled visceral single ‘Mercia’, their first new music since 2025 album ‘BODIES’.

Coming as the Australian band take to arenas across the U.S. supporting Sleep Token on their ‘Even In Arcadia’ tour this autumn, the track continues the emotional streak as their latest full-length.
Speaking on ‘Mercia’, frontman Jacob Charlton has shared:
“‘Mercia’ is a song about loving someone lost in their own abyss. It speaks to the ache of giving everything—warmth, devotion, even the hope of carrying their pain—only to be met with silence and defences, by ‘vaults’ and ‘ice’. At its heart, the song is about the futility of trying to heal what resists healing, and the way that struggle leaves you altered, hardened, and haunted. By the close, the speaker admits they are sinking under the weight of their beloved’s spectre. They’ve been hardened by the experience — so much so that they can’t offer mercy anymore.”

In our Album Story digital cover feature earlier this year, Jacob described working on their new music, saying:
“I think we landed on ‘Bodies’ in the right way. We were ready to make the sound that we didn’t know we wanted until we did it. The process was less a case of, “We’ve done this before, so we can’t do it again” and more, ‘Can we do things better than what we are thinking and hearing right now.”
Thornhill are currently out on the road with Sleep Token playing a run of sold-out U.S. arena shows.
