Twenty One Pilots headlined alt 98.7’s ALTer EGO this weekend, and covered an absolute classic, with permission from Jack White, of course.
The band’s setlist was made up of classics from across their discography, with newer favourite ‘RAWFEAR’ and ‘The Contract’ rubbing shoulders with a combined version of ‘Jumpsuit’ and ‘City Walls’.
But it is the moment that one of the most iconic basslines and drumbeats in rock was pulled out that the cheer was loudest. But before the duo kicked off their take on The White Stripes' ‘Seven Nation Army’, there was one more surprise. And that was an appearance, via video, from the man who wrote it.
Simply stating, “Hi, I’m Jack White, and I give Tyler and Josh permission to do this song”, it’s as glowing a reference as you’re going to get.
And it absolutely helps when it sounds as incredible as this.

Twenty One Pilots are set to release a new concert film next month. ‘Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined’ will document the band’s huge show in Mexico City on the CLANCY tour last year.
The film will be arriving in cinemas and IMAX from February 26, for a limited time. Tickets will be available to secure from January 15 from right here.
