Hot Water Music | Tour Essentials

Fresh from their run of 30th anniversary shows, Hot Water Music's Chuck Ragan picks out five items that he cannot hit the road without.

Pocket Knife

“I’ve always felt naked without one. Of course comes in handy from opening food, merch boxes, chores, cutting food etc. Some years back I came upon a bad car accident and luckily had a knife to cut someone out of a very bad situation and since will never leave home without one.”

Hygiene Bag

“Aside from daily necessities, such as voice therapy tools, there’s a throat spray we use called Sanger Oil made in Germany that helps when we’re busted up. Throat Coat or Fisherman’s friends lozenges as well.”

Books & Writing Tablet/Pens

“Lately reading a lot about dog training with a new pup at home, homesteading and gardening as well.  As far as writing on the road, it comes in phases and never really know when something will gush. So it’s good to be prepared when the moment arrives.”

Yoga Mat

“I’ve been very inconsistent over the past 25 years in my yoga practice.  It comes and goes depending on my health and mindset. Always hard to get going with it but once I do I’m thankful and recovery from the shows is much easier as well as better mental health.”

Fishing Gear

“I’ve only fished over here once but up in Scotland with Callum Connor. I would love to explore more but usually time doesn’t serve. When I do bring gear, it’s completely dependent on the species, fisheries and weather.”

Hot Water Music’s new album ‘Vows’ is out on May 10.
