Gen And The Degenerates have announced their debut album ‘Anti-Fun Propaganda’, set for release February 23.
The album reveal has been heralded by the release of new single ‘Famous’, which follows recent track ‘Big Hit Single’.
It’s a fuzzy new track that might sound like a fun-filled anthem but has a deeper message, with the band’s lead vocalist Gen sharing:
“It’s kind of a poison pill disguised as a pop confection. It’s taking a satirical look at celebrity culture, materialism, and where we draw our self-worth from, but it’s masquerading as a sexy, unrequited love song.
“That’s how it began life, but we reworked the music with Ross [Orton, producer] towards a darker place, and the lyrics took a more sarcastic and satirical turn…”

Ross Orton recorded and produced the full ‘Anti-Fun Propaganda’ LP – the producer whose prior credits famously include Arctic Monkeys, Amyl and the Sniffers and Gang of Four, to name a few.
The record has been billed as a coming-of-age story that sees the band as both a tight-knit unit and individuals wrestling with modern society and all the sexuality, gender politics and volatility that entails.
As Gen has further said of the LP:
“The vibe of the album is ‘…anybody else seeing this?’
“It covers some heavy subject matter, but my inability to write anything sincere means there’s always a sense of humour and absurdism throughout.
“We’d always struggled with our sound on record, but meeting and working with Ross, something just seemed to click into place. We make a lot of noise, and Ross was the first person to capture that and refine it.”
The band will also hit the road across the US with legendary Celtic punks, FLOGGING MOLLY, across America in early 2024.
