Mike is the winner of our first Rock Sound 25 Icon Award celebrating key artists from throughout our 25 year history. In our new, career-spanning interview, he opened up about some of his more recent collaborations, including the track with Lovato.

He said “Demi, she’s got a superpower, you know? Her abilities with her voice. It is just so, so big and so spectacular. I also have to give her credit for making the transition that she’s currently in from pop to rock. There’s a lot of adversity when someone decides to do that, especially at this time when rock is not as popular as the other types of music that she’s made. So she’s effectively choosing for her business to do less, so you can imagine how many people around her wish she wouldn’t do this.”

“But her attitude is like, ‘but this is what I love. This is what I love to do and if I’m true about it, and pure about it, and let people know, in a way that’s authentic, then they’re gonna realise that I mean it and I think that they’ll support me or I think that people that weren’t supporting me before will realise that my intentions are real and they’ll come around’. She’s just stuck to her guns, I give her a lot of credit for that.”

Lovato’s latest album, ‘Holy Fvck’, saw her play with more rock and pop punk influences before reworking many of her classic songs in this style on her ‘Revamped’ collection last year. Shinoda co-wrote the single ‘Still Alive’ which featured on the soundtrack to the movie ‘Scream VI’.
