The Dirty Nil have put their own spin on an all-time classic, with the deluxe edition of their ‘Free Rein to Passions’ album out now.
The extended version of their latest album comes via Dine Alone Records.
As well as serving up a cover of Bonnie Tyler’s instantly smash hit ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’, it provides a number of the original album’s demo arrangements.
Speaking about their choice of cover song, frontman Luke Bentham has explained:
“We were asked to play Kyle’s brother’s wedding as the house band and readily agreed. There was a list of dream covers and this one we laughed at but then learned.
“From the first time we did it in the jam space, I knew we had a good one. It was probably the highlight of our wedding set and we decided to record it for posterity.
“Special shoutout to Sam’s amazingly high singing on this one. I find it very difficult to not sing the expletives present in the ‘Old School’ version of the song.”
‘Free Rein to Passions’ marked something of a reset for The Dirty Nil, with the band opting to follow their instincts and approach the creation of the record with a more back-to-basics approach, following their 2021 LP ‘Fuck Art’.
This led to them jamming away in their practice space for weeks, trying not to overthink or take anything too seriously.
