Malevolence’s Tour Essentials

Ahead of their UK headline tour this month, Malevolence’s Alex Taylor talks us through 10 key items that he cannot hit the road without.

iPad And Backbone Controller

“This is an essential piece of kit for me. I have my cloud streaming games all linked with my iPad, so it’s perfect for downtime or when the weather is shit outside.”

Fresh Pair Of White TN’s

“The signature shoe of Malevolence. You’ve always got to crack out a fresh pair for a tour. It goes with any outfit and is comfy and practical.”

Steamer/Vocal Tubes

“I was recently introduced to Vocal Tubes. They are great for warming up with. They are basically just silicon tubes that you do your warm-up through. You just stick one end in a bottle of water and away you go. I always get asked about how I look after my voice on tour. A steamer is essential for that two week point in the tour, where your voice starts to feel a bit fragile. It has saved my ass many times!”

Noise Cancelling Headphones

“Another essential gadget. Always needed for drowning out your bandmates when they are talking too much shit or you wanna watch a film on a plane.”

Swim Shorts

“If there’s one thing that Malevolence love doing on tour, it’s hitting the local swimming spot. Not enough bands do it, but we always try to make the most of our environment, even if it’s only for a short amount of time.”

Portable Speaker

“This is essential for the backstage vibes and to piss off the greebos in the adjacent dressing room by playing rap music.”

Decent Roaming Contract On Your Phone

“Trying to get a good contract that doesn’t charge you out the arse for roaming across different countries, is a pain in the arse and an absolute minefield. We’ve all been caught out with hefty phone bills at the end of a tour, so finding a decent one is vital otherwise the long drives can be dull.”

Toothbrush

“Essential. So many of your favourite bands could do with this reminder.”

Deodorant/Aftershave

“It’s 2023. There’s no excuse to be stinking out the tour bus anymore. A tin of Dove hasn’t gotta break the bank.”

Fresh Trim

“If there’s one thing that Malevolence spend money on more than anything, it’s a fresh haircut, hence why we’re always on Insta begging local barbers to come to the show and give us a shape up. If you’re a barber, you’re welcome on our guestlist anytime!”
